Sailing Instructions

1.0    Rules

1.1    The series will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing, appendix E for RC sailing, class rules of the DragonFlite 65 class, and these Sailing Instructions.

1.2   As we build our RC sailing club, avoiding collisions, supporting our fellow captains and fostering community around the events will take precedence over the written rules.

1.3   If possible, a boat shall avoid a boat that is disabled.

1.4   Captains who anticipate that a give-way vessel will need to avoid them, or a situation where an obstruction will require lake/sea room from another captain should advise that captain via verbal hail with the sail number, vessel description or captain name at the earliest convenient time.

2.0   Eligibility

2.1    Captains must be dues paying members of the Bishop Ranch Yacht Club (BRYC).

2.2    Membership of the BRYC shall be gained by being present for a BRYC event. There shall be no paperwork involved.

2.3    Dues for BRYC membership shall be set at $0.00.

3.0    Notices to Captains

Notices to captains will be given verbally at the event.

4.0   Changes to Sailing Instructions

Changes to these Sailing Instructions may be made verbally at any time. 

5.0   Schedule of Races

5.1   First warning signal NOT BEFORE 4:30 p.m.

5.2   Total races scored will be a maximum of 10 with one throw out per every 5 races. No sequence will be started after 6:30 p.m. The maximum number of races can be exceeded by vote of the captains.

5.3   After the first two races have been completed, a 5 minute intermission will be held to allow for boat tuning, unless it isn’t.

5.4  A boat may request a delay to check for weeds on the hull; no tuning is allowed for such a delay. Captains asking for such a delay shall be given grief by at least one fellow competitor.

6.0   The Course

The course for a race will be given verbally. The courses are shown below.

7.0   Launch area

The launch area will be to the east of the race area, either on the dock or concrete abutment.

8.0   Marks

8.1   Marks will be of various colors and will be verbally designated.

8.2   The starting and finishing line will be between a buoy and a designated object on land.

9.0   Obstructions

The following are designated as obstructions:  a line 5 feet from shore, docks, and visible floating weed.

10.0  The Start

10.1   Races will be started via a recorded 3 minute countdown sequence. The countdown will be made via Bluetooth speaker in the vicinity of the start area.

10.2    Individual Recall: When at a boat’s starting signal any part of her hull is on the course side of the starting line, fellow captains shall make a fuss. Should such fuss be made by a several captains, the over early captain shall return and re-start the race from behind the course side.

10.3   General Recall: When at the starting signal lots of boats are over early, the race committee may hail ‘General recall’.

11.0  Finish

11.1   The finish line will be on the course side of the finishing marks.

11.2   Each captain shall announce their sail number at the moment of finishing.

11.3   After finishing, each captain shall record their boat number or name on the designated piece of paper below the captain who finished immediately ahead of them.

12.0  Penalty System

12.1  A boat touching any mark, shall take a single penalty turn. 

12.2  For any other RRS infringement, the penalty shall be two penalty turns.

13.0  Protests

No protests

15.0  Scoring

15.1  The Low Point Scoring System will be used with one throw out per 5 races.

16.0  Disclaimer of Liability

Captains participate entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4.  The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

17.0 Sail Numbers

Captains are encouraged to decorate their boats in an elaborate fashion. Should such decoration be insufficient, sail numbers will be required to identify the vessel.

18.0 Outside Assistance

Captains are allowed to free vessels that have run aground on the shore if they can be reached without entering the lake.

 Course Area

The course area will be on Lake Annabel to the west of the boat dock and may move depending on conditions and competitor agreement.

Course Notes:

·         There are three courses shown below. The windward-leeward course can be sailed twice around.

·         The Start / Finish line is not restricted (it is OK to pass through it when on an active leg).

·         Marks will generally be white balls, unless they are not white balls.

·         All marks shall be left to port (on your left side)
